Kombucha Labels

For kombucha labels, there several elements to consider including:

• • Kombucha Labeling Requirements: Your labels should clearly state the product identity as “kombucha” or “fermented tea.” You should also include the net quantity (volume in ounces and milliliters) to help customers see what they’re getting at a glance.
  • Alcohol by Volume (ABV): Since kombucha’s fermentation process can produce trace amounts of alcohol, the ABV is an important detail. If the kombucha has more than 0.5% alcohol by volume, it must follow TTB guidelines for alcoholic beverages, including an ABV declaration and health warning statements.
  • Nutritional Content and Sugar Content: Kombucha labels should list ingredients by weight, starting with the main components, such as tea, sugar, and any flavors. A full Nutrition Facts panel will show the nutritional content, including sugar levels, when sold as a non-alcoholic beverage.
  • Authorized Health Claims: If you want to highlight any health benefits, you should stick to authorized health claims that are substantiated and not misleading. Statements like “live cultures” or “raw” are okay if accurate, but any health benefits must follow FDA guidelines for clarity and truthfulness.
  • Certifications and Claims: For kombucha labeled “organic” or “Non-GMO,” you’ll need the appropriate certifications, like the USDA Organic seal.
