Frequently Asked Questions

We offer a variety of finish options to enhance the look and durability of your custom nutrition labels. You can choose from a matte finish for a subtle, non-reflective look, or a gloss finish to give your labels a shiny, vibrant appearance. Both options provide protection against wear and tear, but if you need extra durability, particularly for products exposed to moisture, our water-resistant finishes, such as laminated or UV-coated options, are ideal for ensuring your labels remain intact and legible in any environment.

To ensure your ingredients label is compliant with FDA regulations, it must include several key elements:

    • Ingredient List: All ingredients must be listed in descending order by weight, using their common or usual names. This ensures that consumers can clearly see what is in the product.
    • Allergen Information: The label must declare the presence of any of the eight major food allergens (milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans). This can be integrated into the ingredients label or in a separate “Contains” statement.
    • Nutrition Facts Label: If the product also requires a nutrition facts label, it must include information like serving size, calories, and specific nutrient information, including total fat, sodium, and dietary fiber. The % daily values for these nutrients must also be provided to help consumers understand how the product fits into their daily diet.
    • Label Format: Both the ingredients label and the nutrition facts label must follow FDA guidelines for layout, font size, and placement to ensure they are easy to read and consistent with FDA-compliant nutrition labels.

Here are some of the most common materials used for food labels, each offering unique benefits to ensure durability, visual appeal, and functionality:

    • Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP): A popular choice for food labels due to its water-resistant and oil-resistant properties, making it ideal for beverages, sauces, and refrigerated products.
    • Vinyl: Known for its durability and water resistance, vinyl is commonly used for labels that need to withstand harsh conditions or frequent handling, such as food or beverage products that will be outdoors or stored in moist environments.
    • Kraft Paper: Offers a rustic, eco-friendly look, perfect for artisanal and organic products. It provides a natural aesthetic but is less durable compared to synthetic materials.
    • Polyester (PET): A strong, heat-resistant material, often used for products that require high durability, such as hot-filled beverages or items exposed to extreme temperatures.
    • Metallic BOPP: Adds a luxurious, eye-catching finish to labels, commonly used for premium products like gourmet foods and beverages.
    • Gloss and Matte Paper: Coated paper options that provide a smooth finish with either a shiny (gloss) or muted (matte) appearance, often used for dry goods and packaged foods where moisture resistance is less critical.

We offer shipping through several vendors like UPS, Fedex, and USPS. Ground, Next-Day, 2-Day, 3-Day, and custom freight options.

Our preferred file formats are Adobe Illustrator or High-Resolution PDF.  You can view our complete artwork file standards checklist here.

Before printing your custom nutrition labels, we will provide a digital proof via email for your approval. This allows you to review your label, confirming details like positioning, color accuracy, text legibility, and more, prior to full production. We are committed to ensuring your complete satisfaction through this streamlined proofing process.

While Blue Label Packaging does not directly offer label design services, we do have resources to help with your custom label design needs. We maintain a directory of Blue Label Approved designers who specialize in label design and understand the unique requirements and technical details involved. We also showcase a gallery of label designs for inspiration.

Our printers are capable of matching up to 97% of the full color spectrum, allowing us to achieve precise color reproduction for your beer labels. We use advanced CMYK printing to produce an extensive gamut of colors. For designs requiring an expanded range, we also print using WOVG ink sets which add white, orange, violet and green.

Our top-of-the-line color management program and processes ensure we hit the correct hues, tints and shades. We color calibrate and profile all of our presses so your unique color palettes and gradations print true to your vision.
