• • FDA Food Safe Labels: Your labels need to comply with FDA regulations, ensuring they are made with materials that are safe for direct food contact.
  • Product Name and Country of Origin: Clearly label the common name of the produce (e.g., apples, tomatoes) and the country where it was grown, especially for imported items, as required by the USDA’s Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) regulations.
  • Organic Standards: If your produce is labeled as organic, make sure it meets USDA organic standards and includes the USDA Organic seal.
  • Price Lookup Code (PLU): Include a PLU sticker on individual items like fruits and vegetables to make checkout and inventory management easier.
  • Nutrition Label: If your produce is pre-packaged or processed (e.g., pre-cut fruits or salad mixes), you’ll need to include a nutrition label that details serving size, calories, and nutrient content.
  • Expiration or Use-By Dates: For packaged produce, ensure there’s a clear expiration or use-by date, especially for items like pre-cut fruits or salads, to meet food safety standards.
  • Pesticides: If your produce has been treated with certain pesticides, it’s important to follow any labeling requirements that inform consumers about these treatments.
  • Distributor Information: Include the name and address of the distributor or grower for traceability purposes. This helps in the event of a recall.

If you’re planning to place stickers or labels directly on your produce, there are a few key considerations to make sure the labels are practical, safe, and compliant. Here’s what to keep in mind:

• • FDA Food Safe Labels: The materials used for the stickers must comply with FDA food safe labels regulations, meaning the adhesive and label material should be safe for direct contact with food.
  • Adhesive Strength: The adhesive needs to be strong enough to stick to the surface of the produce, but not so strong that it leaves a sticky residue or damages the skin when removed—especially important for delicate items like tomatoes or peaches.
  • Durability: Since produce often encounters moisture and handling, the labels need to be water-resistant and durable. Whether it’s for apples or cucumbers, the sticker should stay intact through washing and handling.
  • Size and Placement: The size of the fruit stickers or vegetable stickers should be appropriate for the produce. The label needs to be big enough to display important information, like PLU codes or barcodes, but small enough to avoid overwhelming the product.
  • Consumer-Friendly Design: Make sure the stickers are easy to peel off without damaging the produce or leaving residue. Consumers expect fruit stickers to be easily removable.

This allows you to review your label, confirming details like positioning, color accuracy, text legibility, and more, prior to full production. While Blue Label Packaging does not directly offer label design services, we do have resources to help with your custom label design needs. We maintain a directory of Blue Label Approved designers who specialize in label design and understand the unique requirements and technical details involved. We also showcase a gallery of label designs for inspiration.

Our printers are capable of matching up to 97% of the full color spectrum, allowing us to achieve precise color reproduction for your beer labels. We use advanced CMYK printing to produce an extensive gamut of colors. For designs requiring an expanded range, we also print using WOVG ink sets which add white, orange, violet and green.

Our top-of-the-line color management program and processes ensure we hit the correct hues, tints and shades. We color calibrate and profile all of our presses so your unique color palettes and gradations print true to your vision.
